Yes! This is something we are passionate about educating folks on. You can read more in depth on this topic on our blog, but meanwhile, here are a few things to know about preservatives in our products:
- A water-containing product should have a tested preservative system. Otherwise, it is very susceptible to the growth of mold, bacteria, and yeast.
- We use a natural preservative at less than 1% of our total formula, so it is subtle, safe, and effective!
- Our preservative meets strict ECOCERT standards.
- Our preservative is a paraben-free, formaldehyde-free, and isothiazolone-free based system.
- Note: Vitamin E and grapefruit extract are not preservatives. They are anti-oxidants, which means they can reduce oxidation of products and therefore extend shelf life.

Our creams do best when used within 6 month after opening.
Otherwise, they have a best by date on the bottom of the jar, so the best by date is the date on that sticker, or 6 months from first use - whichever comes first! Usually, you have a solid year from purchase to use your product according to the best by date. -

Great question. The main difference is that our creams are water-containing, or "hydrous," and our serums & balms are "anhydrous," or do not contain water.
Creams consist of water and oil emulsified together and therefore require a preservative and an emulsifier (both natural and ECOCERT approved). They are rich and hydrating and are the superior choice for dry, thirsty skin given their water content.
We craft our face creams with rich hydrosols, which are distilled from organic botanicals for their aromatic compounds and water-soluble plant components.
Balms & serums are great for targeting skin issues, delivering nutrients to the skin, locking in moisture, and can accompany a cream to make a complete moisturizing regimen.
